Benizuru Sauna Lounge
A special relaxation space just for you,
where you won't be disturbed
First opened on the 26th July 2024, the Benizuru Sauna Lounge is a new sauna facility here at Okuhita Onsen Umehibiki. Conceptualised as a 'sauna lounge facility where both mind and body dance as one', each facility features a private sauna, cold-water bath, as well as a lounge space and terrace overlooking the Hibiki Valley. With three different sauna lounges to choose from, guests are free to utilise the reserved space as they wish. Reservations can be made between check-in and check-out (exceptions may apply during certain times of the day), on a first-come, first-served basis. Whether you're a sauna enthusiast or a first-timer, it is our hope that this new place of relaxation will be something that can be enjoyed by all guests.
The 3 top features of Umehibiki’s BENIZURU Sauna lounge:
-
Each sauna room is equipped with top facilities
Not only can guests set the temperature according to their own preferences, but fitted Bluetooth speakers allow guests to enjoy music of their choice while using the sauna.
-
Terraces offering spectacular views
With breathtaking views overlooking the Hibiki Valley, guests can take in the fresh, outdoor air in utmost privacy, without disturbance.
-
Local character
With an emphasis on the Hita region and its lush, rural surroundings, the facility utilises only local products and ingredients for its food & beverages, as well as the essential oils used for ‘löyly’ (the Finnish practice of adding water and scents to the sauna to create humidity).

How to spend your time in the sauna room (specimen)
-
Before entering the sauna lounge, please thoroughly wash your body in the main bathroom (or in the open-air bath in your guest room). This will also allow you to acclimatise to the heat of the sauna prior to entering it.
-
Enter the sauna lounge. The default temperature is set at approximately 80 °C. Please adjust this according to your own preferences, before pairing your smartphone to the speakers via Bluetooth, should you wish to do so. Next, put on the sauna hat (provided) and enter the sauna itself.
-
After approximately 10 minutes in the sauna (feel free to reduce this time-span according to your own needs), the next step is to cool your body in the cold-water bath. This is a deep water bath containing natural groundwater. After getting out of the cold-water bath, you can go out onto the terrace and enjoy a refreshing ‘air bath’, should you wish to do so.
-
Wearing one of the sauna ponchos provided - or remaining nude - you can relax and recline on the open-air terrace seating, immersing yourself in the valley views, surrounding clouds, birdsong and the sound of insects.
-
Typically, most people do three ‘sets’ in the following order: sauna → water bath → outdoor ‘air bath’. Please, however, enjoy the sauna lounge in a way that suits you, taking into consideration both your physical condition and mood.
-
The sauna lounge contains drinks, snacks and ice cream made from local ingredients. After the sauna, you can relax on the sofa, take in the views, watch TV or a film (from your own account) - or simply spend the time as you wish to.
